Meeting Minutes
Members Present: Norma Stewart, Fr. Tom, Pat Saum, Jeff Wieneke, Patrice Hohn, Dick Smook, George Langford, and Mary McLaughlin
Members Absent & Excused: Deb Goebel, Dan Nath, & Gregg Gropel
The meeting was called to order by Pat Saum and began with a prayer from Fr. Tom. The meeting minutes of January 14, 2009, were approved as printed.
The agenda was approved, with the addition of Formation of Lay Ministry under New Business.
Old Business
A) Video Camera and TV for Sunday Mass Broadcasts (Pat)
Pat and Mary had a meeting with Dean Sim from Sim Sound & Video in Winona, he is recommending we purchase a small camera with a joystick which could operate at least a couple of cameras and a sound system. The joy stick would make panning with the camera very smooth. The cheapest package was around $6000, and there are at least two more upgrades to consider. Dean was going to send as additional bid with more up to date equipment after visiting with us and hearing what our needs were. Mary will contact Dean to see where he is with the plan.
B) Stewardship Council (Fr. Tom)
The Stewardship Council will include members of SC & SM so it will be a cluster council. The Council will monitor and advise on Time Talent and Treasure.
C) Recipients for 1% Charitable Giving (Mary)
The third quarter recipient for the 1% charitable giving (about $500) is St CatherineÕs Good Neighbor Fund with Mary Jane Brown Home receiving $50. Motion made by Patrice seconded by Jeff, passed. At our next meeting we will decide on the next recipient.
New Business
A) Grief Support Group: Compassionate Friends groups are in Marshall, Fairmont, and SF, but do not have very good attendance. We could look for ways to complement a support group by participating in a donation to a newsletter, or by attending a meeting or possibly offering a ride to someone to a meeting. The second Sunday in Dec one can light a candle in memory of a child who has died and let their family know about it. Some places to look for more information on grief support: widownet.org and the Grief Recovery Institute
B) Elections for Pastoral Council. George and Dan have served two terms and are not eligible for re-election, Deb has served one term can run for another term .We will need 6 nominees. May 3rd will be nominations and May 17 will be elections. Patrice, Jeff and George will count the ballots.
C) Church Windows in word and image. A brochure of all 20 windows including a photo, and an article on the saint will be included. George made a motion to endorse the brochure seconded by Norma, passed.
D) Formation for Lay Ministry:Ó Together in FaithÓ is a program which precedes entrance into to the Lay Ministry and Diaconate Formation Programs. Patrice / George made a motion that SC pay the mileage and program cost for Kevin Aaker and Mary McLaughlin. (SM has already agreed to share in the costs.)
Reports
A) Liturgy (Fr. Tom)
The Holy Week schedule is the same as last year. Next year we will possibly change Good Friday to a 5:30 service to encourage greater attendance. The council thought this was a good idea.
B) Faith Formation (Fr. Tom)
VBS schedule may change to the last week of school, possibly this year. Adult Faith Formation is going fine- there always seems to be a small group.
C) Knights of Columbus (Dick)
They have been averaging about $600 per fish fry. they recently made a $500 donation to the Shannon Walgrave family.
D) LCCW (Norma)
The DOWCCW meeting will be held in Luverne April 15 with an all day meeting, the officers will meet the day before at the GlufÕs house. Harveen has been elected to a 2 year term as the Vice-President and then will serves as the President for DOWCCW. LCCW is going to focus on a Saint at each of their meetings in 09-10
E) Finance Council (Mary)
The minutes from the February and March meeting were distributed. $45,000 has been collected for the Parish debt for the building project; we started at $130,000 in Oct and now are at $85,000. The custodial situation is discussed monthly, if anyone has any questions or problems with anything please contact the office.
F) Social Ministry (Fr. Tom)
Social Ministry minutes were distributed. Habitat Sunday is this Sunday, Bread for the World is May 2nd & 3rd. Relay for life is soon, and the February Food Shelf collection was very successful.
G) Administrator (Mary)
Things are going well.
H) Pastor
The workshop ÒDeveloping a Ministry to Military FamiliesÓ is next Saturday in Marshall. Fr. Tom and Dick are attending. The Valentine Dinner and Movie was successful, and had a balance of $16, thanks to the donors of chicken and wine. There is a supply of excellent Stewardship literature available to adults. The Pastoral Council will begin studying ÒStewardship: A DiscipleÕs ResponseÓ the US BishopsÕ Pastoral Letter.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 7:00 pm. Fr. Tom led us in our closing prayer. The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mary McLaughlin, acting Secretary
