Church of St. Catherine Parish Pastoral Council Minutes

Call to order by Pat & prayer was led by Fr. Tom.

 

Roll Call: Present:  Patrice Hohn, Pat Saum, Paul Doherty, Mike Smith, Fr. Tom, Rosie Paquette and Mary McLaughlin. Guest: Katie Baustian. Absent & Excused: Norma Stewart, Jeff Wieneke, Tom Nelson, and Gregg Gropel.

 

Approval of minutes from November, 11, 2009. Motion by Paul / Mike Passed.

Approval of Agenda: Motion by Patrice / Paul Passed.

 

Old Business 

A.     Marie Wiegel’s gift reviewed – Discussion on allocation of gift will be at next meeting.

B.     Gift of Condo: The value of the gift is unknown at this time. Soon we will offer the condo for sale or rent. The Council expresses gratitude to Elliot Hanson for this very generous gift.

 

New Business

A.     Honor Flight was discussed. A motion was made by Paul / Patrice to do a 2nd

       collection for Honor Flight for WW II Veterans of SW MN to go to D. C. monuments.

B.2010 Calendar of Events: Sunday Feb 14 – 7:00 pm Valentine concert featuring   Emily Lodine with home-made desserts; the free will offering will go to Haiti.

Lent - A Book Club and a Movie Series will be offered.

C. Smoke Free Grounds- Discussion was the Church and School & Grounds are already smoke free; it just needs to be enforced, and reminders made.

 

Reports                                                                                                                                                     

Liturgy: Fr. Tom: everything is going very well. The Stewardship Council is leading efforts to engage youth in liturgy, including music.

Faith Formation: Katie gave us an overview of the year.                                                                                             

Knights of Columbus: Fish Fries and Breakfasts are going well. They hosted their annual Free Throw contest at the Luverne High School and had 30 participants. They gave 3 scholarships of $300. Winners are Carrie Bauer, Brittany Liebard, & Rachel Nath

LCCW: No report                                                                                                                         

Finance Council: We have about $52,000 left on the Building Debt. A video camera is being purchased and will be in use by Easter for cable telecast of Sunday Mass.                                                                                                            

Social Ministry Committee: Met tonight – topics discussed include Legislative Day, Healthcare update, Christmas Project, Birthdays at Nursing Home, Baby Bottle project, Habitat Sunday in March, Response to Haiti, and Food Shelf for Feb, and the Valentine Event.

Stewardship Council – 2nd Meeting next week Thursday

Administrator: Everything is going pretty well, the furnaces are being installed, and we are getting new water heaters.                                                                                                                           

 Pastor: Fr. Tom invited ideas for Adult Faith Formation including topics for the series of Wednesday nights for Adults. He gave each member a Formation Packet.

 

The Next Meeting will be Wed. February 10, 8:00 pm.
