The November meeting of the LCCW began at 7 PM on November 13, 2007

Patty Evans opened the meeting with the Prayer in honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel.  We added another prayer for Jim Boeve.

Mary Lou Mulligan read the minutes from the October meeting which were approved as read.

The Treasurer's report was given by Joan Langford.  The month began with a balance of $4152.52

and after several additions and subtractions we ended the month with balance of $4004.50.  Some members handed in receipts to be paid over the next month.  Patty and Joan said that they had received a letter from the Winona Diocese CCW stating that we should send our annual dues of $60 to the National CCW and also dues of $3 per woman in our parish to them.  Joan will handle that this month.

CORRESPONDENCE

Norma received a thank you note from Shirley Debates for a card from CCW.  She has been in Houston, TX for medical treatments and will return to her home November 25.

OLD BUSINESS      None

NEW BUSINESS

We discussed the Shut-in Program for Christmas.  Harveen Gluf has volunteered to chair it again this year.  Joan Langford, Connie Wieneke and Norma Stewart said that they would assist her.  Several ideas were presented: small toiletries, coupons for hair care, Heartland bus tokens.  We have only one person serving in the Armed Forces overseas this year and that is Tyler Scheidt.  Patty Evans will call Pat Scheidt and get a list of possible gifts to mail to him for Christmas.

Lynne Richters, who works at the Mary Jane Brown Home in the Activities Dept., contacted Patty to say that they could use a new computer for the residents to communicate with friends and relatives.  She had checked into the cost and thought that it might run about $400.  A source was mentioned who can sometimes get used but very nice systems for a much cheaper price.  It was suggested that we might want to make a monetary contribution for buying ink and paper also.  Patty will put an announcement in the bulletin so that anyone in the parish who might have a good used computer can donate it.  We can revisit this item next month.

Norma Stewart gave a short presentation on S.H.A.R.E.  They will need volunteers on Wednesday, December 5 and Thursday, December 6 to help organize and on Friday, December 7 to distribute Christmas gifts to needy families and singles.  After some discussion we decided to support that group with a donation of $200.

Connie Wieneke gave short explanation of Fun Day and invited everyone to attend and bring along a friend.  She stressed that there are lonely people in our parish and they would benefit from an invitation. The next Fun Day is on Thursday, November 15.

COMMISSION REPORTS

Donna Scholten gave the Organizational Commission report.  She had information about membership in the National CCW.  The forms to mail in to the National CCW were on the table where we signed in tonight.

Mary Lou Mulligan gave the Legislative Commission report.  She read from the report on the 2007 Minnesota Legislature by the Minnesota Catholic Conference.  Next year is an election year and our Minnesota Caucuses will take place on Feb. 5.  The Bishops will publish a pamphlet regarding our duties as citizens.  Some of the other big national issues are the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our country's use of torture and rendition, also, health care for all.

Sue Buffington and Norma Stewart reported on the Area CCW meeting which took place in Wilmont on October 25.  Gina Jarchow Newman sang as part of the program.  Two of the recently confirmed teens presented a piece about their patron saints and how we should all renew our familiarity with our own saints.  The next area meeting will be in Lismore on Saturday morning, January 26.
