The first
regular meeting of the LCCW for the 2007-2008 year was preceded by a wine and
cheese get together in the Centennial Room at 7 PM.
Patty Evans opened the meeting at about 730 PM with the prayer in honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel.
Joan Langford read the Treasurer's report. The opening balance was $5376.33. After a $1000 donation from Eileen Domagala and the receipts from the salad luncheon which totaled $2082, we paid some bills including $3100 for the floor in the sanctuary area and end with a balance $3454.86. The report was approved as read.
Mary Lou Mulligan read the minutes from the April meeting and they were accepted as read.
CORRESPONDENCE
Thank yous were received from the Powers family for the meal prepared by the Elizabeth Ministry and from Father Tom for his gift at the Potluck last spring. Mary Pike received a letter from the Mary Jane Brown Home telling us that the Christmas party is scheduled for December 13th.
OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS
Lynn Richters has completed a two year term as vice President and Norma Stewart has consented to take that office. We approved sending Lynn a thank you gift.
We approved sending a thank you gift to Emily Goebel who is moving out of town. She has been doing cleaning in part of the church offices and the Centennial room. It was reported that the vacuum in the Centennial room is out of order. Joan Langford will take it to Sioux Falls for repairs. Joan and her husband, George, will do the cleaning in the Centennial Room each week.
Pat Ahrendt would like to retire as co-chair from the committee that prepares the funeral dinners. We will try to find a replacement for her. That lead to a discussion of what to do with leftovers from funeral dinners. Patty will discuss this with Father to see if he could suggest a family who might be able to use a meal when the situation arises again.
We reviewed the calendar that was included in the mailing that each woman in the parish received this week. Volunteers are needed for several jobs in the upcoming year. Patty said we would have a speaker or presentation every other month and commission reports for the other month. Raevette Loonan from the SWMNCC will speak next month. We approved a donation in the amount of $300 to be given to her before she leaves. September 30 will be LCCW Sunday. Harveen will be in charge of fellowship following Mass. Mary Jo Nath will assist. Mary Pike would like to give someone else the chance to chair the Christmas party at the Mary Jane Brown Home. Mary Lou Mulligan said she would do that. Mary Jo Nath will be in charge of the Anointing Mass on October 2 and will be assisted by Alma Rowe and Mary Ann Schutz.
Harveen gave a report on the CCW conference in Winona last week. Ahne Serie and Monica Slater also made the trip. They learned about the new cathedral in the morning, went to Mass celebrated by Bishop Harrington, and then Father Andy Beerman gave a talk on prayer. On the return trip they viewed some of the flooded areas and saw a new church in St. Charles.
Connie Wieneke announced that the first Fun Day will be at 1 PM on October 25.
The meeting adjourned with a prayer read by Norma Stewart.
