The first meeting of the LCCW for this day took place on September 9, 2008.  It was the very best turnout in a long time when 31 women signed the register.  Prior to the meeting we had wine, cheese and crackers.

Norma Stewart opened the meeting with the prayer in honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

We had a motivational speaker in the person of Sr. Gutsy Guss.  She spoke about doing one positive thing each day.  Listen to others, smile, live simply.  It was a very clever presentation by Harveen Gluf.

Mary Lou Mulligan read the minutes from the May meeting.  They were approved as read.  Joan Langford gave the Treasurer's report.  The beginning balance was $2649.13 and after several bills were paid and receipts from the salad luncheon and some dues were deposited the final balance was $4491.78.

CORRESPONDENCE

We have received thank you notes from the Woodley family for the meal provided by the Elizabeth Ministry and from the Helping Hands Pregnancy Center in Worthington.

OLD BUSINESS

The Christian Foundation for Children sent an inquiry regarding our commitment to continue to support the young girl in India for whom we have been sending $20 per month.  We voted to continue this commitment.

NEW BUSINESS

Harveen gave a summary of the diocesan meeting in Mankato that she attended.  She is the Area Historian for the

WDCCW.  She is recording a page for an album of each area meeting, which will have photos of these events.  The meeting had a panel on domestic abuse in the morning and after Mass and lunch they had workshops.  Vicky Nelson and Harveen took two carloads of things for the International Commission work.  Most of it is for Haiti.  Virginia Gerken delivered items to Sioux Falls recently.

Norma presented an idea that since Eileen Reisch has had some health problems and cannot continue as the International Commission person we will all need to pitch in to do all that she did.  She suggested some might want to work at home or in small groups in someone's home.  Several women checked out the sewing room after the meeting.

Mary Lou gave report from the Legislative commission.  She had attended the retreat in Fairmont called HOW THEN SHALL WE LIVE?  It was a prayerful study of the USCCB pamphlet called FORMING CONSCIENCES FOR FAITHFUL CITZENSHIP.  We were cautioned to study about all issues and to listen to other people.  We are to search for the common good.

Norma passed a basket of candles around the room and as each person selected a candle they introduced themselves and told why they came to the meeting.
