The October meeting of the LCCW began at 7 PM on October 9,2007.
Norma Stewart opened the meeting with the Prayer in honor of Our lady of Good Counsel.
Norma introduced Raevette Loonan from the Southwest Minnesota Crisis Center who gave a short presentation on domestic violence. She explained some of the signs of the problem and how each of us can assist someone in that situation. She also told us a bit about her job. She spends quite a bit of time educating people including teens at the high schools on date rape. She has to work with law enforcement and the court system as well as Health and Human Services. We presented her with a check in the amount of $300 before she left.
Mary Lou Mulligan read the minutes from the September meeting which were approved as read.
Joan Langford gave the treasurer's report. We had an opening balance of $3454.86 and after several additions and subtractions the ending balance was $4152.52.
CORRESPONDENCE
Mary Pike received an invitation to a meeting at the Mary Jane Brown Home regarding monthly birthday parties for residents. Mary Lou will attend with her on the 17th of Oct.
OLD BUSINESS
There are families who could use the leftovers from funerals. When the occasion arises Father will be contacted to suggest a recipient.
It was confirmed that LCCW will continue to fund the cleaning of the Centennial Room.
George Langford repaired the Centennial Room vacuum cleaner.
May Jo Nath submitted a report to Norma that she and her committee served 68 persons at the lunch which followed the Anointing Mass on October 2. It was a delicious meatloaf meal which amounted to only $2.13 per plate.
Delores Strassberg has someone who could remove the old refrigerator before the Festival weekend. Mary Lou will call her in the morning and tell her to go ahead and remove it.
Mary Lou will buy two electric roasters to replace the ones that did not work and were thrown out.
NEW BUSINESS
Kathy Hamann has volunteered on behalf of LCCW to keep an eye on the Gathering Space kitchen area and clean it as needed.
We discussed the trip to Rochester to visit Sr. Mariella. We cannot fill a large bus. The smaller 20 person van is not insured right now but several people with minivans might be able to travel together depending on how many people actually want to go. We decided on date of Oct. 20 and if that does not work we will try for Nov. 10. Mary Lou Mulligan will call Sister and set the date and then get it into the bulletin if there is still time.
We will have to change the date for the Priest Appreciation Potluck because Confirmation is now scheduled for May 4, 2008.
Our next meeting will be November 13 at 7 PM and Mary Pike will bring the treats.
Norma adjourned the meeting with the prayer for vocations for the Diocese of Winona.
