Luverne Council of Catholic Women Meeting Minutes

Lenten Reflections

Our regular meeting began at 7 p.m. on March 11, 2008.  Patty Evans began the meeting with the CCW Prayer in honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

SecretaryÕs Report

Patty Evans read the minutes from the February meeting.  There was one correction: The Easter Vigil fellowship will be held on March 22 and not February 22.  The minutes were then approved as corrected.

TreasurerÕs Report

The TreasurerÕs Report was given by Joan Langford.  The beginning balance was $4171.06 and after a few additions and subtractions the ending balance was $4305.52.  The report was approved as read.

Correspondence

We received a thank you note from the Furniture Mission as well as a letter from Angie Willers.

Old Business

1)    Mother-Daughter Banquet – it was determined that this was held in 2007 and we typically host this every other year.  The next banquet will be spring 2009.

2)    Volunteer Open House December 2008 – Patty has talked to Father Tom and shared the ladiesÕ ideas about LCCW helping with the costs of the food, but would prefer not to host this event.  Patty will be in contact with Father Tom in the future regarding this.

New Business

1)    Father Tom attended the meeting to discuss a few items:

-       He wanted to thank the women of St. CatherineÕs for all they do for the parish.

-       The suggestion was made to refer to our current circles as ÒCircles of CaringÓ, using these as more of a network for the women of St. CatherineÕs and not strictly furnishing food and workers.  Father Tom will be contacting the circle leaders to see where we can reach out to members within each of the circles.  Harveen suggested personally inviting all circle leaders, and the circle leaders thus inviting the members of their individual circles, to the May LCCW meeting.  Connie will contact the circle leaders with the invitation.

-       There are a couple of future projects, which have been endorsed by the Finance Council, for the rectory:

o   New Carpet (estimated total cost of $2500)

o   New Washing Machine ($400)

o   New Dryer ($400)

2)    Furniture Mission House (Eileen)

- Eileen shared information regarding the quilts/sheets we have been furnishing to the Furniture Mission.  We will continue to do so.  She explained many aspects of what the Furniture Mission does for the Sioux Falls community.

3)    Priest/Religious Appreciation Potluck – change of date – April 27 – A chair is still needed.  Patty will contact Diane Gonnerman and Deb Goebel to still if they would be interested in chairing this event again.

4)    Norma furnished everyone with a list of suggested donations for the ChildrenÕs Home Society (which we will be visiting on 4/1).  This list will also be published in the bulletin for anyone who would like to donate.  A motion was made by Harveen, seconded by Eileen to make a donation of $500 to the ChildrenÕs Home Society (which we will be visiting on 4/1).  Motion carried.

5)    A motion was made by Judy, seconded by Sue to cover the $800 cost for the new washer/dryer for the rectory.  Motion carried.

6)    Discussed making a sizeable donation toward the flooring in the sanctuary.

Commission Reports

1) International Concerns – Eileen Reisch – Eileen gave an update on the works of the sewing group – there are very limited numbers of people that are helping out.  Please consider helping in any way (sewing skills not required) with this ministry as EileenÕs health will not allow her to continue to do as she has done in the past.

2) Church Concerns – Mary Petersen – Report given by Patty Evans for Mary.  Patty read from the area Church Commission report regarding some ideas for the Lenten season.

Lenten Reflections

Patty read some Lenten ideas to share with our families and to apply this Lenten season.

Patty adjourned the meeting with the Hail Mary.
