The November meeting of the LCCW was held in the Centennial Room at 7 PM on November 11, 2008.

The meeting was opened by Norma Stewart, President with the Prayer in Honor of Our Lady of Good Counsel.  She followed this with a Thanksgiving meditation.

Mary Lou Mulligan read the minutes from the September meeting and they were approved as read.

Joan Langford told us in the Treasurer's report that our beginning balance was $4491.78 and the ending balance was $5737.34.  Her report was approved as read.

CORRESPONDENCE

Joan received a thank you from Angie Willers.  Eileen Reisch gave Mary Pike a thank you from the Furniture Mission in Sioux Falls.

OLD BUSINESS

We voted to send a check in the amount of $250 to the Discovery Time program to assist a parish family with daycare expenses.

As a result of the trip in October to the Ronald McDonald House we are collecting pop-tops.  Boxes are placed strategically around the church to collect them.

Harveen Gluf told us that we had about 35 people attend the Anointing Mass and meal in October.

NEW BUSINESS

Harveen Gluf gave several reports.  She is organizing transportation for the mission projects for our area.  She and Norma discussed a new area of interest called Christian Women's Group Cooking.  Most were interested in this new project.  Harveen is in charge of the Christmas for the homebound and those in nursing homes.  She is out of ideas and would appreciate emails with suggestions.  She also brought up the gifts for the staff for Christmas.  We voted to give Father Tom $100 and each of the others (Mary, Jackie and Katie) $50.  The Elizabeth Ministry is working.  Harveen's request for emails at our last meeting has been successful.  Most of the volunteers have taken at least one meal and some have taken two.

Stewardship Sunday is November 15 and 16.  Deb Goebel is setting up tables and each program in our parish is asked to make posters and have literature available for all parishioners on that weekend.  Father asked the mission sewing group to have a display of their work and we will coordinate that with the LCCW table.

Donna Scholten reported on the Organizational Commission.  She explained that we are all invited to join the national CCW.  The annual dues are $25 and that includes getting the magazine CATHOLIC WOMAN.  She gave us the web site for NCCW as http://nccw.org/ . She also mentioned that one of the concerns of the CCW is hospitality.  Are we welcoming all the women who might be interested?  Hospitality is the heart of the Gospel.

Connie Wieneke showed a nice poster that she has ready for Stewardship Sunday.  She explained the structure of the Circle group system.  She also told us that each leader of a circle has been asked to call each member in a friendly way and ask if they have any needs.  If they have needs they will be referred to Connie or Father.

Mary Pike told us that the new mission sewing room would be open for all to inspect as part of Stewardship Sunday.  Following the meeting several of the participants got to see it.  It is a wonderful place and appears to be set up in a way to facilitate their work.  We voted to buy a new vacuum.  They can always use sheets and pillowcases of any kind and in any stage of wear.  They are locating a coffee table for the sewing room.  Jill Willers will be taking quilts over to Sioux Falls for the Furniture Mission.

Norma asked if we wanted to continue our annual donation to the SHARE program.  We voted to send them $200.

Mary Pike and Mary Schutz volunteered to serve a snack at the meeting in December.

Mary Lou will be in charge of the December Birthday party at the Mary Jane Brown Home on December 11 at 215 PM.  Several women offered to help with the party.

Pat Scheidt will chair the Winterfest Cookie Sale.  Patty Evans will help her and others can sign up to help.

Christmas at the Palace will be on December 12.

Fun Day will be on November 20.  On December 4 we will have another and that will be a Potluck lunch.

Mary Lou reminded everyone that last year Father Tom wanted to have a poinsettia plant for each family who lost a loved one during the past year and I thought he might want to repeat that in December.  We voted to pay for the  plants again.

The December meeting will be December 9 and all are asked to bring baby gifts for the Helping Hands Pregnancy Center in Worthington.  Each will also bring a gag gift to exchange.
